Songs Of The Week June15.1

This is my first of hopefully many of these posts to come. I hope to do weekly posts of songs I'm listening to currently. I love introducing people to new music and sharing what I'm loving listening to, I used to make all my friends mixtape back when mixtape were a thing, so decided to keep up with the times and make it a blog post.

No Freedom - Miley Cyrus
Okay, so I may be very late to the party on this but I have just watched all of Miley Cyrus' Happy Hippie Presents Backyard sessions and I'm loving them. I loved the previous backyard sessions when she covered one of my favourite songs by Melanie; 'Look What They've Done To My Song Ma' but the new happy Hippie Sessions are actually raising money for LGBT youth, which is amazing. I am a self confessed Miley lover and love the way that she is shaking things up especially regarding her revolutionising of gender in the media. So, my favourite from the covers she has done for Happy Hippie session is No Freedom. It is a beautiful song and her voice is totally enchanting, it's just something I've been loving this week for reflecting on tragedies of love life.

My Superman - Santigold
If you follow any of my other social media or watch my vlogs, you'll know my latest guilty pleasure has been watching the Vampire Diaries... I know. I became totally obsessed, but the soundtrack is actually really good. I love this song! I just feel like it's a kind of slow mo, strut, evil, badass kind of song. I've been listening to it whenever I wanna feel like a badass, like I'm a vampire or something. I just imagine walking past people and this playing and I'm just like yeah fuck you.

Cleaning Out My Closet - Angel Haze
SERIOUS EXPLICIT WARNING
I love Angel Haze, like on a girl crush level. I think she is SO underrated, I would say for a female rapper but I read somewhere she identifies as agender, I'm not sure how true that is but I love it. I just love when people deny the binary construction of gender. This song, is not something that is enjoyable to listen to... as an upbeat song.. It's more a musical expression of Angel's life struggles. The name is so perfect, "Cleaning Out My Closet" as she shares what has been hidden in her closet. It is so raw and totally personal and I was shocked the first time I listened to it. It honestly made me feel sick and still does when I hear the line "He took me to the basement and after the lights had been cut, he whipped it out and sodomized and forced his cock through my guts". It is disturbing and shocking but worth listening to to feel that raw emotion that Angel conveys.
